Google TV: Google To Partner With Sony, Intel And Logitech

Earlier this month, information became available about a new project that Google was developing and that was Google TV, a search based product build on the Android operating system that was currently being tested by Google employees and their families.

Further details about Google TV have become available and it looks like the search engine giant will be partnering with several well known technology companies to bring TV service in the home environment. The partner companies involved with this project include Logitech, Sony and Intel and it appears that Google TV will consist of a television set with an integrated personal computer that will be powered by an Intel processor and running on the Android OS. Logitech will off course be responsible for the peripherals in this endeavor.

In addition to the new TV sets, Google will continue to develop Android powered set-top boxes that can be used with existing TVs. New developer tools are also forthcoming which will allow third party software developers to create applications and new functionality that will work with the Google TV service. This feature maintains the same successful process that Google has implemented with the application marketplace that is in place for Android phones and now boasts some 30,000-35,000 applications.

We did elude to this in an earlier article, but Google TV has the potential of generating significant revenue for the company. First, it increases the reach of the Android OS into new areas and second, there is the potential for greater search revenue.

My Google TV is amazing! I been playing with it since I got it and it’s everything I expected. I love to browse the web, watch Youtube videos and check my Facebook but I don’t like sitting at a computer to do it. I work at DISH and I love it but I’m always in front of a computer some times I want to come home to relax. Now I can do just that! With the Google TV I can just sit on my couch, lay back and just hang out without being in front of a computer and I can switch it over to Live TV at any time.
