If you’re located in a city that’s been captured in Google Street View, you may have seen one of the famous Google cars making its way down your local streets and roads capturing digital images with a multi-directional roof mounted camera.
Some of the most strangest and unusual images have been captured and are viewable through this Google product. There seems to be few places that Google has not been able to digitally image and now it seems, even a mountain top won’t stand in the way of the search engine giant.
Google has confirmed that for the 2010 Winter Olympic games that are to start in under a week in Vancouver, BC, Canada, Google took a snowmobile with a mounted camera to snap 360-degree pictures of Whister mountain, the Canadian ski resort where many of the events will take place. In addition to the mountain side view, other strategic points of interest were captured including Whistler village and a view from the chairlift itself. Of course no snowmobile used for these last two.
The below video offers an introduction to the Street View Snowmobile.
That’s a pretty cool job, how did this fellow get this opportunity? Was it posted as a Google job somewhere, similar to the manager position for their new Nexus One telephone support center and how about expanding this service to capture other popular ski resorts?
