Google Street View has arrived to Canada. The cool Google product provides users with a 360-degree view of local cities. The feature is incorporated into Google Maps and can be enabled by clicking the link for street views once a suitable address has been brought up on the map.
As I’m sure others can attest, this can be an addictive feature as you Google your home, your place of employment or your local coffee shop. You just never know what you’re going to find on Google Street Views. In other cities where this feature has been rolled out, internet users have spotted customers walking out of strip clubs, cannabis clubs etc.
Needless to say, there are privacy concerns that arise with this feature. However, Google has taken steps to blur faces and license plates that have been captured on video camera. People also have the option of requesting image removal if it shows “the user, their family, their car or their home.”
Currently, Canadian cities that have been captured in Google Street Views include Toronto, Kitchener , Calgary, Vancouver, Montreal, Quebec City, Squamish, Halifax, Whistler, Ottawa, and Waterloo.
