Google Play Store Has Served 25 Billion Downloads

Google Play is the official name of the location from where you can download Android applications. Today, the site has announced a couple of major milestones, both in the number of apps that they contain and the number of apps that have been downloaded.

As of now, Google Play has been used to download 25 billion apps and the site is also host to 675,000 apps. By comparisons sake, Microsoft recently confirmed that their own marketplace for Windows 8 which will be used by Windows 8 device owners including tablet owners now has 2,000+ apps.

To commemorate the occasion, Google will be having a 5 day promotion during which they will be reducing the cost of apps from some of their major developers to just 25-cents. These apps that are being discounted belong to such developers as Electronic Arts, Full Fat, Gameloft and Runtastic.

In addition to this, Google will also be bundling items together in groups of 25. For instance, you will be able to download 25 banned books, or alternatively, you can get 25 must see movies or 25 music albums that has revolutionized the music industry. Like their apps, these bundled packages will also see price reductions.

With Google’s new milestones that have been announced today, we can see that the search engine is getting even closer to Apple who has 700,000 apps, of which 90% are downloaded each month.
