Google Nexus One Hack Enables Multi-touch

Google Nexus One Hack Enables Multi-touch

When the Google Nexus One smartphone launched this year, it did so with a bright OLED screen and sleek design, but what was noticeably absent was a multi-touch web browser, even though the Android 2.1 operating system and the phone hardware were both capable of fully supporting it. Multi-touch is a feature that many have been asking for and one that has been available on the Apple iPhone since 2007.

Cyanogen, who announced root access for the Motorola Droid phone is back, this time announcing that a Google Nexus One hack has been developed that enables multi-touch with gestures such as pinch-to-zoom. Cyanogen, who’s real name is Steve Kondik does warn that “You will initially lose your bookmarks and browser settings by doing this” and we’ll add that you will void your warranty and possibly end up with a phone brick.

Full details including the required software files and documentation are available through the XDA developers forum. Google is aware that this is a popular feature request and has indicated adding support for multi-touch in a future update but there is no word on exact timing.

Who Cares…besides ex-iPhone users, who switched to ANDROID?
I think it’s the most over-rated feature on a phone.
    I love my DROID!!!!
