Google Earth has come a long ways since version one. Each revision has introduced new features and just when you think there’s not a lot more that could be added to this application, Google comes out with a new surprise.

Version 4 introduced us to the sky, version 5 was dedicated to the oceans of the world and today, we introduce version 6 that places the emphasis on the mother natures lungs, trees, 80 million of them to be exact. In an effort to get perfect trees, Google took the time to make 3D models of some 50 different tree species and with that, we’ve got 80 million of them placed throughout the major cities of the world like Berlin, NYC, and Tokyo. In fact, the search engine giant doesn’t stop here as they are also partnering up with conservation organizations to show the environmental damage that is occurring to the forests around the world.

Another huge addition to this new version of Google Earth is Integrated Street View. This feature has been in Google Earth in some form since 2008 but now, it’s the full meal deal. As a result, users can move all the way from space down to Street View with ease. Navigation through Google Earth is also easier with the inclusion of a Street View button/mascot which can be picked up, dragged and relocated to any point on the map that is highlighted in blue. Street View navigation within Google Earth takes place with either keyboard or mouse movements.
