Over the last little while, we’ve heard about a couple of talented employees leaving the security of Google Inc. in search of greener pastures, most notably, Facebook. In response to this, Google has tried to retain employees through salary increases as well as retention bonuses.
However, this has not been enough to stop the talent drain as there is now confirmation of another defection. This time, it is Aditya Palande, the former Director of Engineering who has left. Rather then go to the social networking site Facebook, Palande has landed at Loopt, a location based service. With his new employer, his position will be as Vice President of Engineering. Palande’s engineering experience consists of 20 years of active employment with a number of different companies, with three and a half of those years having been with Google.
For its part, Loopt was one of the original companies in location space, but as of late, has dropped out of the limelight, having been overshadowed by the likes of Foursquare. Recently though, Loopt has been trying to make a comeback by connecting with Facebook as the social site tries to improve location spaces with their Places service.
