The Google Chrome browser has been around for more than nine months and it’s been well received by the internet community. Chrome was just another way in which Google could battle Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, for online dominance, but it looks like Google has again set their sights even higher. Recently Google announced their new project to create a Google Chrome Operating System.
So what is in store for the Google Chrome Operating System? It is an open source lightweight operating system that will initially run on netbooks. The Chrome OS will work with speed and simplicity as a way to start up and get onto the web in a few seconds. The Google Chrome OS will take users back to the basics with minimal interface and, hopefully, a lack of viruses, malware and security updates.
Google is already talking with technology partners regarding their new OS. The operating system will run both x86 and ARM chips. Google is working with multiple OEMs to get the system on netbooks. Furthermore, Google Chrome will use web based applications that will run not only on Google Chrome OS but also with Windows, Mac and Linux.
Although the Chrome OS plan is already in place, netbooks running Chrome OS will not be available until the second half of 2010. Eventually Google Chrome OS will be available on full sized desktop systems. Google firmly believes that their new Chrome OS is the answer to internet simplicity for those who spend most of their time on the web.
