Giant Telectroscope connects London and New York

After years of planning and work, London and New York are finally connected by a giant telescope called a Telectroscope. From reports, the biggest hurdle was to string the cable across the Ocean. Many good men were lost, but all in the name of science.

With all kidding aside, only part of this story is true. Yes, London and New York are now connected, but no cabling was placed and no lives lost. The two cities are connected by a trans-Atlantic broadband connection with both ends of the connection being hooked into HD cameras. Tiscali, an Italian Internet provider is handling the technical aspects of this project.

As you peer through the lens of the scope, you can see in real time, people in the other city going about their daily business. The display will be open 24 hours a day until June 15th, so if you happen to be in either New York or London, here’s your chance to take a look across the ocean. Who knows what opportunity waits for you?
