Gesture Cube Offers No Touch 3D Navigation

Gesture Cube is another new input device that moves away from the traditional keyboard/mouse and touchscreen technology of today and more towards the type of no touch 3D input devices seen in the movie Minority Report.

An inspiration of a German technology company, the device integrates and makes use of GestIC, a new technology that is capable of detecting and sensing electric fields which is then translated into both movements and distance in the 3D realm. The result is a no touch input device.

Checkout the below YouTube video which does give a demonstration of gesture control and highlights a couple of scenarios of where this device could be implemented in a home environment. It does look like impressive technology and it’s pretty interesting to see gesture control for such things as reviewing a music library, searching for favorite songs, adjusting volume control, flipping through digital pictures as well as wireless file sharing which I suspect is through either WiFi or Bluetooth technology.

We’re still a bit away before this magical cube becomes a mainstream device, something we see in all homes like a DVD player but it looks like no touch control is something we are going to hear a lot more of in the coming months and years.
