Just on the heels of an earlier report by Gartner in which they detailed their expectations for the mobile phone industry over the next couple of years, we now have another report from the research firm that examines the state of the tablet market.
According to the report, by 2015, Android OS will be firmly entrenched on about 39% of all tablets while the market leader, Apple will see their market dwindle from 83.9% to 47.1%. These will be two of the biggest players in this niche and together, they will hold the vast majority of the market. Other operating systems such as WebOS and Meego will have little impact and will amount for under 5% of the market over the next few years. According to Gartner, Android OS will enjoy the same success in the tablet market as it will in the mobile phone market over the next couple of years.
There is very little debate on how dominant Android will become over the next few years, but there is some questioning going on as to how they will reach this point. Some say that Android’s growth will be slow but linear, while others believe that with the new tablets coming on the market with Android OS, this rise could occur at a much faster pace.
