Garmin Recalls 1.25 Million Nuvi GPS Devices

Garmin Ltd. has advised that they will be performing a voluntary global recall of their Nuvi GPS devices. The reason behind the recall has to do with problematic batteries which in some cases are causing devices to overheat and possibly catch on fire.

In total, 1.25 million units will be covered by this recall advisory. Garmin goes on to say that though the number of items being recalled is in excess of a million, the number of reported cases of batteries overheating is under 10 and in those cases, there have been no reported instances of either property or physical damage.

If you happen to have a device that has been recalled, you are asked not to try and remove or repair the battery, but instead take the entire unity to an authorized Garmin facility for further processing. The specific model numbers affected by this recall include 200W, 25W, 260W and the 7XX series.
