Yesterday, you may have heard or perhaps even experienced first hand the network problems affecting the Sony Playstation Network that resulted in up to two thirds of gamers unable to access the online game network.
These issues are now resolved but coming out in the wash today is the actual cause of the network outage. On the Sony website, it appears that the issue stems from the internal clocks on console devices recognizing 2010 as a leap year. The incorrect programming is said to have affected about 20 million users across a variety of Sony PS3 models. The only exception was the PS3 slim which apparently had the correct coding.
Sony has indicated that a PS3 recall is unwarranted as the resolution was to have the internal clock advance forward by one day. If users are still experiencing any kinds of system issues, you may need to further disconnect from the internet, reboot and verify the correct date/time and you should be good to go.
