Freescale Tablet Supports Android, Linux And Android OS

At CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2010, Freescale revealed their tablet pc that was in need of OEM partners. Priced at just $200, the device was squarely aimed at the low end of the tablet market and featured a 1GHz ARM processor, 512MB RAM, a 7-inch display screen with 1,024 x 600 pixel resolution and 4GB integrated storage that was expandable to 64GB using microSDHC cards. GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 and 802.11b/g/n WiFi were also going to be standard features with optional 3G/RF4CE available. Freescale also confirmed that touchscreen technology would be part of the final design as the demo models at CES made use of an external keyboard and mouse.

The hardware specifications may not allow the tablet to stand squarely against the Apple iPad, but for those looking for a barebones entry level tablet pc, this would be something to consider, especially with the $200 price tag.

We now get word today that the Freescale tablet will support three operating systems. They are an unnamed Linux OS, and two Google operating systems, the open-source Chromium OS and Google Android. Freescale is still looking for OEM partners to work with, so the earliest that we’ll see this tablet is possibly some time during the summer.
