
Amazon has announced the availability of a new application for Blackberry users called “Kindle for Blackberry”. The new application offers book lovers access to over 420,000 electronic books, including new releases and books that have made the New York Times Bestsellers list. Many of the available book titles are also priced at under $10.
Blackberry users on the networks of AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon and who have either the Blackberry Bold 9000, 9700, Curve 8250, 8900, Storm 9530, 9550 or the Tour 9630 will be supported.
The Amazon application makes use of Whispersync, a proprietary technology that allows users the ability to save and synchronize personal bookmarks across a variety of mobile devices including Amazon’s own Kindle, Kindle DX, Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch, RIM’s Blackberry as well as personal computers.
The Kindle for Blackberry is a free download through Amazon. Once installed and configured, BB users can download e-books (in full color if applicable), read a small portion of the book for free and then decide whether to make a purchase or not. The application offers basic customization such as allowing mobile users to adjust font size.
The maker of the Kindle e-readers now has applications available for the Blackberry, iPhone, iPod Touch and there is talk that new applications will are on the way for the iPad and the Mac.
