Finding free antivirus programs for download has never been a challenge. Many organizations such as Panda and AVG offer some of the best antivirus products on the net with regular signature updates.
With the announcement of Morro, Microsoft has now entered into this crowed market.
Considering how reliant the world is on Microsoft applications and just how heavily dependent businesses and home consumers are on the Microsoft operating system, it just seems to be a logical step for them to bundle antivirus software with Windows OS.
Microsoft Morro is not download and install software. Rather, it is a hosted application that will include a “real-time anti-malware” application. Once setup on a pc, all internet traffic will reroute through the Microsoft datacenter and will undergo malware analysis before returning the information to the end user. This is the big difference between Morro and the free products which don’t always address real time malware threats.
From a consumer standpoint, the biggest issue will your personal privacy on the internet as all traffic will be going through Microsoft servers. This is still something that will need to be answered and I’m sure Microsoft will try their best to put these concerns to rest.

The top antivirus software programs cost as little as 2 months internet connection. They all include constant and unlimited automatic updates that keep your system safe and clean. If you can afford $1500+ on a computer, $300+/year on internet connections, you can definitely afford another $50 once to make it safe (and prevent it from being used to spread viruses and Trojan horses behind your back).
