The Amazon Kindle ereader app will be released for free this summer for the open source Android OS. The Kindle app will allow Android users to not only read their favorite literature on their handheld devices, but it will also offer the option to purchase and subsequently download ebooks to their smartphone.
The app will incorporate Amazon’s WhisperNet technology so that all copies of the ebook, whether they are being read on a dedicated Kindle reader or through the Kindle app are synchronized to the same page.
By making available a Kindle app for Android devices, Amazon has tried to make their service accessible to as many devices as possible. If you’re keeping track, there are Kindle apps now for the Blackberry, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Mac and PC.
