This year, we should see the next version of the iPhone but in terms of when the new device will launch is really anyone’s guess. We’ve heard several different rumors on this subject and today, a Foxconn insider has his on take on this subject.
If you’ve never heard of Foxconn, this is the Chinese manufacturing company that Apple has turned to in the past to mass produce their smartphones. According to a source within the company, mass production of the iPhone 5 is ready to begin. When we look at past launches such as the iPhone 4, we generally see a period of 6 months between when mass production begins and the device is ready for launch. Using the same measurement, a six month window for the iPhone 5 would mean that the next iPhone could be here by the summer.
The next question that may come to mind is just what this device will look like. Again, going back to the insider, it is hard to say what form factor the final device will take as apparently there are multiple versions that he has seen. There are however some commonalities which include a 4-inch screen and the absence of a tear drop form factor. One thing that has crossed our mind is the fact that if multiple versions of the device are out there, how can this source be so sure that the device is ready for mass production?
In any case, take this rumor with a grain of salt and between today and its official launch, I’m sure we’ll see a number of additional rumors surface regarding the iPhone 5.
