Ford Motor Company has developed an inflatable seat belt that they plan to debut in their 2010 Ford Explorer. It’s one of these ideas that you think why didn’t anyone come up with this before? The inflatable seat belt combines the benefits of a traditional seat belt with a front seat airbag, adding an extra layer of passenger safety for those in the back seats.
The advanced restraint system will help protect young kids as well as the elderly from typical injuries such as head, neck and shoulder injuries that are common in a car accident.
Ford has indicated that these new seat belts will become a standard in all of their vehicles and that they plan to roll them out globally.
