Ford has had some cool ideas and innovations as of late such as their inflatable rear seat belts and today, the motor company has unveiled their next generation Ford Sync. This isn’t the first in-car WiFi system that we’ve seen, but it’s definitely one of the simpler ones available.
All you need to do is provide your own USB mobile broadband modem, plug it into the Sync system and you’ve just turned your Ford vehicle into your own mobile WiFi hotspot. Unlike some of the other network connections available, there is no additional hardware or software required, nor do you need any internet subscription packages through Ford.
The Sync in-car entertainment and information system will also secure your network connection with WPA2 and personal network passwords so that someone can’t leech off of your bandwidth. Expect to see the Sync system roll out in select Ford models starting in 2010.
