All parents worry about the health and safety of their kids. When kids are young, you worry about teaching them the basics of life, as they get into their teen years, you worry about sex education and once they reach driving age, you worry about their safety on the road.

You can have all kinds of conversations with kids about vehicular safety and the responsibilities that go along with having a drivers license. Most will listen, but for some kids, you may need to go the extra step.

Ford MyKey is another alternative available for parents should they wish to use it. MyKey is a key with an embedded chip that can be programmed to limit a teens driving behaviors. Some of the features that MyKey will provide include setting the maximum speed of the car to 80 mph, limiting the maximum volume of the car stereo, and playing an audible alert when the driver doesn’t wear his seatbelt.

MyKey will be a standard feature on the 2010 Focus Coupe and will make it’s way to other Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models over time.
