Fire Flowers – Fire Extinguishers

When it comes to home safety, one of the recommendations often heard is the need for a fire extinguisher to be in a prominent location within the kitchen. This is a great suggestion, but thinking about it, I can’t think of a lot of households amongst my friends and family that have a fire extinguisher, in fact, I know we don’t have one either.

As to why we don’t have one, it’s probably because it isn’t something we’ve really given a lot of thought to, but that will change. From Japan, comes a fire extinguisher that adds some fun to the traditional red canister.

Called the fire flower, these fire extinguishers look like, you guessed it, a series of decorative silk flowers with a magnetic backing. This allows you to keep the flowers on a magnetic surface such as the fridge so that it is easy to find should the need ever arise.

In the event of an oil or grease fire, place the fire flowers onto the fire. Once on the fire, the flowers will melt and cover the entire fire in a film that will put the flames out. Watch the video below to get a better idea of how this works, but while you’re watching it, take a look at how calm the lady remains. I find it funny how calm she remains, although this is under test conditions. In real life, I know there would be some panic.
