There had been some rumors that this announcement was coming and today the Fido website has been updated to reflect the fact that the Canadian wireless data service provider will now carry the BlackBerry Curve 8520.
It appears that Fido will offer four different purchase plans for this Research In Motion (TSE:RIM) device. First, for those interested in being contract free or on a prepaid plan, the 8520 can be purchased outright for $400. Alternatively, the device can be had for $350 with a two year agreement or $50 with a 3 year Fido agreement that includes a personal email or data add-on.
The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is a quad band device with an optical trackpad, backlit full QWERTY keyboard, 3.2-inch screen display with 320×240 pixel resolution and 128MB internal memory (expandable to 16GB via microSD). The device also includes a 2.0 megapixel digital camera with 5x optical zoom and video recording capacity, dedicated music keys, stereo Bluetooth 2.0 as well as support for the Blackberry App World.
