With all of the controversy surrounding the Fusion Garage JooJoo, the web surfing tablet has a steep hill in front of it to climb. Formerly known as the CrunchPad, the design of TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington, the JooJoo has been blanketed with lawsuits and announcements of shipping delays.
Though it will take time to work through the varied issues of IP theft and production delays, the JooJoo has submitted its FCC filing, meaning that full hardware details of the tablet device have been made available.
First, the faster graphics promised by the JooJoo can be attributed to its reliance upon the NVIDIA Ion chipset which not only offers the device the ability to play 1080p HD quality video but also allows the unit to support hardware-accelerated Flash 10.1 once this has been made available.
Additionally, the tablet is powered by an Intel Atom processor, the N270 to be more specific. There will also be a 3G modem included and an accompanying SIM card slot, which is counter to the comments made by Fusion Garage CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan who said that only WiFi support would be available at the time of launch.
The FCC’s JooJoo also appears to be running Windows Vista in lieu of a Linux distribution, but this shouldn’t be taken as confirmation of a Windows tablet as it could quite possibly be just a custom setup for the test environment. Fusion Garage began taking $499 pre-orders for the tablet late last year and assuming that there are no more delays, shipping is set for March 25th.
