Fake PS3 Controllers May Go Boom

Sony is putting out the word as a cautionary note to gamers that counterfeit PlayStation 3 game controllers have begun to appear in the wild. These PS3 controllers are said to be “identical” to a genuine PS3 controller and that it can be very difficult to tell the two apart.

According to Sony, the counterfeit product is also inferior to the original both in terms of quality and reliability, but guess what, there’s also a concern about safety. Sony has stated that these fake controllers are a risk to your physical health because in certain situations, these devices may “ignite or explode” resulting in property damage or physical injury.

Sony didn’t elaborate as to where these counterfeit products are coming from but of course their recommendation is that you buy a Sony approved wireless controller from any one of the many trusted retail stores that are in your local city.

    Always check the model number printed on the controller against the number on the packaging, this is the easiest way to tell.
    Someone bought a white PS3 controller from Amazon’s website using a different seller, I spotted other minor differences such as the SELECT button being too far to the left, the PS button had a larger gap around the top right, and the L2 & R2 triggers had different molding underneath. The packaging also ONLY had English and French text, whereas the original packaging has text in English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian.
