Social networking site Facebook has announced that tonight at midnight EDT, they will open up online registration for personal urls.
Facebook has been under tremendous pressure to keep up with other social sites such as Twitter and Myspace which currently offers this feature.
The unique URLs will be available on a first come basis. To prevent name squatting similar to what is currently seen with domain squatting or the username abuse seen on other social sites, Facebook is encouraging those with a registered trademark to contact them directly.
Make sure that you select your vanity url carefully as once it is has been associated to your account, you will not be able to change it. For those with privacy concerns, Facebook has also confirmed that the registration of vanity urls will in no way affect your current privacy settings as they will all remain in place.
