This morning, the number one social networking site today, Facebook, came out with a revised version of their Facebook app. The new version is version 5.0 and this is a big update for anyone that uses the Facebook app on an Apple product.
According to Facebook’s own description of the update, version 5.0 was a rebuild which allows the app to not only be “easier to use”, but also “faster”. If you have been a Facebook app user for iOS over the last year and a half, you will probably know just how painfully slow the app can be at times. The reason behind this slowness can be attributed to the apps reliance on HTML5. Though this mark up language can provide benefits for web page design and cross platform apps, it also comes with its challenges when designing some applications.
Facebook app version 5.0 has been in the works for a little while now with one of the first mentions of this app coming in June when a pair of Facebook developers revealed to the New York Times that an Ojective-C version of the app was currently in the works and with it would come speed improvements of 2.5 times over the older apps. Those that would like to give Facebook for iOS a spin can download the new version through the App store.
