Each day, the social networking site Facebook receives 100 million picture uploads from its user base. Many of these pictures contain images of a persons face and been up to the user to identify and tag the people that are within each picture.
Facebook is looking to simply and automate this process. The current process consists of finding faces, highlighting them by tracing a box around them and then tagging them with the persons name. Facebook will now automate the first two steps of this process using technology that it has acquired through Divvysho. Facial detection is available, but not facial recognition is not so you will still be responsible for tagging the pictures.
