Another new technology introduced at the Mobile World Congress 2010 in Barcelona was ElectroSelf which is being called the first ever self-recharging hydrogen fuel cell technology. The ElectroSelf system is the design of Electro Power systems and its purpose is to provide reliable backup power for mobile networks that are off-grid, situated in global regions affected by extreme climate conditions (-20°C to 45°C) or are affected by unreliable power.

This self-contained system is true green technology and simply requires water to generate electricity with zero emissions as a byproduct. It’s expected that implementation of such a system will reduce operator costs through the elimination of diesel fueling, battery replacements and lower maintenance costs. Additionally, the system supports remote power monitoring and control so that support could be centralized into a single location to monitor multiple sites using ElectroSelf, with service technicians being dispatched in the event of problems only. Aside from mechanical issues that have to be addressed and serviced, maintenance visits are minimal and get this, water top up is required on an annual basis only.

ElectroSelf comes with a small physical footprint, measuring 600x800mm and requires no additional storage space for external cooling or a separate air conditioning unit.

These days, governments are rightfully clamping down on green house emissions and companies are trying to reduce their carbon footprint. Clean technology such as ElectroSelf is certainly a step in the right direction.
