Ecocoon – Reverse Hearing Aid Blocks External Sound

Ecocoon - Reverse Hearing Aid Blocks External Sound

There are times when people need a bit of quiet time, a time to reflect and get back in tune with their inner self. These times seem few and far between because today’s society if flooded with both visual and audio stimuli. The visual stimuli might be easier to escape by relaxing in a darkened room but sometimes it can be trouble to remove background sounds as they seem everywhere from high flying planes overhead, cars on the street and just the basic sounds of a ringing phone or young kids playing.

Design Affairs Studio has developed a conceptual product, the sole purpose of which is to reduce background noises. According to their design, the device would include three modes: traffic mode, office mode and offline mode:

Traffic mode would filter out peak frequencies associated with motor vehicles whereas office mode would suppress mid range frequencies common with idle chatter. Finally, for the one that wants to reach a state of Zen bliss, there is offline mode.

Sounds like an interesting product if it gets beyond the concept stage but I suspect if it ever did, it would be a rather expensive pair of earplugs, but then again, can you put a price tag on something when they say silence is golden?
