The Seagate Replica Drives have a single purpose, to complete a one step hard drive backup and by that, I mean a full backup of the entire drive, including the Windows operating system and the applications.

With so much digital data (photos, movies, music, documents) residing on the personal computer, protecting these digital memories is paramount.

By performing automatic backups, the Replica Drive eliminates the need to make DVD backups. The drives are available in two configurations, a $130 Replica (250GB) drive designed for single PC backups and a $200 version (500GB) that comes with an external dock, capable of backing up multiple workstations.

The initial backup that this gadget completes will be a full backup that can significant time to complete depending upon the amount of data on your PC. Subsequent backups will be faster as they consist of incremental backups.

There are advantages and disadvantages to a system such as this. The most obvious advantage is ease of use. The system will simply backup everything on the PC regardless of what type of file it is. In the event of a virus outbreak or an accidental file deletion, you can complete a drag and drop data restore of the files required.

On the flip side, more experienced PC users may like a bit more flexibility in terms of what data actually gets backed up.

Curious is this is similar to making a clone of your drive via Norton Ghost. In the case of a hard disk crash on your pc could you replace the drive and then copy everything back via this device???? If so, then, it’s really cool and I need it.
