EA Need For Speed

Electronic Arts racing game, Need For Speed, has reached a significant milestone, one that only a select few video games have achieved. According to company sales figures, Need For Speed has sold more then 100 million copies. In monetary terms, this amounts to about $3 billion dollars in revenue, making it the best selling racing game in the gaming world.

To date, according to Wikipedia, only four other video games have reached the 100 million mark and these are Tetris, Pokeman, Mario and EA’s Sims.

The game has transformed itself since it’s humble origins back in 1994 when the original game would fit on a single 1MB of RAM and a high resolution car contained 70 polygons or shapes used to create 3D graphics. Today, the game is managed by a team of 100 game developers and a high resolution car contains 30,000 polygons.

The Need For Speed franchise will be debuting its new game called Speed Nitro for the Nintendo Wii on November 3, 2009.
