Droid Eris Rooted To Android 2.1 Firmware

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has had a few delays in pushing out the Google operating system Android 2.1 to the HTC Droid Eris smartphone but this hasn’t stopped the guys over at the XDA Developers forum from rooting the Droid Eris to version 2.1.

The update process is straightforward if you are running the stock Android 1.5, in which case, you only need to copy the new firmware package in its zip file format to a memory card and then restart the mobile phone. This will trigger the upgrade.

If you’re not running the stock Android 1.5, you are out of luck for now. The hack will not work if you have already flashed your phone with an earlier Eris 2.1 leak and currently, there is no way to downgrade a non 1.5 phone back to the factory default settings.

A rooted Eris phone with the new firmware comes with a couple of bug fixes and access to the Sense UI (User Interface) but with all hacking endeavors, proceed with caution as you could end up with a brick or a phone that is permanently tied to an unsupported OS.
