Dell, Google Talking Chrome OS Netbooks

Cheap netbooks deployed with the Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Chrome operating system are expected for later this year by way of Acer and HP and now it appears that Dell (NASDAQ:DELL) is looking to get into this action as they have disclosed that they are now in negotiations with the search engine giant.

Technical information about the netbooks was not revealed but because these devices will rely on web based applications, the hardware components will be minimal, meaning limited RAM and some local storage capacity through a solid state drive (SSD).

For Microsoft, Chrome OS will be a growing concern as it represents a viable option to the Windows operating system. With Dell releasing more devices with Chrome OS and Ubuntu Linux, shifting away from Microsoft, it will also lower the cost of their bundles as there are no licensing fees.
