Dell Google Chrome

It’s been barely two weeks since Google’s Chrome OS sparked debates and great expectations in the computing world. It’ll be a while before Google perfects the cloud-geared OS, but apparently Dell isn’t waiting — they’ve found a simple way to import the Chrome OS into their tiny Mini 10v notebook PC.

This isn’t one of the ways Google planned to bring Chrome OS to users, of course, but it’s still a great way to try the new OS out without getting an entirely new Chromebook. It’s going to be a little unstable, of course, since the Chrome OS isn’t perfected yet. In other words, only try this if you simply can’t wait another year to migrate to the cloud.

To install the Chrome OS to your Dell Mini 10v, download the ChromiumOS image file onto an 8GB USB thumb drive. Afterwards, you can install it onto your Mini 10v without having to hack anything. A pretty simple way to try out the next big thing in computing.

Let’s just hope Google doesn’t do an Apple and break Chrome OS compatibility with third-party PC’s, though. You can also get the versatile Dell Mini 10v for $279 — a great buy, especially if you like tinkering with old and new OS’s.
