With the number of gadgets and gizmos growing by leaps and bounds, the electronic waste produced as equipment goes obsolete is a significant problem. Recycling and using green parts is one way reduce the number of devices that end up in our local landfills, but the Dell Froot concept computer tackles the problem by eliminating the physical keyboard and display.
The Dell Froot is the design concept of Pauline Carlos as part of the Dell sponsored sustainability contest. The Froot computer replaces the physical keyboard and display with a virtual laser keyboard and screen projection technology respectively. As a result, the computer can be used on any flat surface provided that a power connection is available. Additionally, the Froot is constructed out of a biodegradable starch-based polymer.
The idea of a biodegradable computer is appealing but one of the drawbacks will be the virtual keyboard as typing on a hard surface for prolonged periods of time can become uncomfortable.
