Two days ago, we reported that the Opera Mini web browser had been approved by Apple and as such, would be in the app store shortly. If there was ever any question as to just how popular this browser was going to be, these questions have been answered by the total number of downloads reported on day 1.
According to figures seen, the Opera mini browser has reached a staggering 1 million downloads on the first day that it was available in the Apple app store. This of course has resulted in the browser being one the most popular applications available in the app store. As it stands now, Opera mini holds the number 1 position on the free app chart in 22 different countries including Australia, France, Germany, the UK and the US.
Along with this news, it’s being reported that there is at least one bug that has been discovered and this has to do with the incorrect rendering of web pages on some websites. This of course will be looked at and a bug fix will be coming. Overall though, iPad, iPhone and iPod users have voiced their overall approval of this free Internet browser. It remains to be seen how the success of this launch will affect Apple’s Safari browser and if this will open the gates for others to launch their own browsers.
