We’ve seen many Apple iPhone mods and most of the ones that we’ve seen have consisted of encasing the Apple device in precious metals and gems and with it comes the hefty price tag that can only be afforded by the ultra rich.
Martin Schrotz is another Apple user who wasn’t overly satisfied with the way that is iPhone 3GS looked. He decided to take things into his own hands and design a new look for his iPhone.
The custom design took several months to complete and consisted of digitally measuring the original case before setting out to use CAD to design his new case. His initial plan called for using aluminum for the case but this didn’t work well at all.
Subsequently, he moved on to a special titanium alloy which worked considerably better as it was RF transparent and didn’t negatively affect signal strength. At no time during this process did he have to dismantle his iPhone to finish his custom mod.
I think he’s developed a cool mod, one that I’d be interested in myself. There is no indication as to whether he would consider offering his services to others.
