JooJoo Tablet PC

The Phoenix rises in the form of the JooJoo Tablet PC, a reincarnation of Michael Arrington’s Crunchpad. The JooJoo, which translates to “Magic” in an African dialect, will hit the market at $499, not the $200 promised by Arrington. According to Fusion Garage CEO, Chandrasekar Rathakrishnan, the idea of a 12.1-inch tablet that can play HD video priced under $200 is pure fiction and economically not viable.

The JooJoo comes with a web based operating system that offers quick boot under 9 seconds. Once fully logged in, the desktop will include preconfigured shortcuts to Gmail, Facebook, Twitter and CNN. The OS will also offer an offline mode with caching to allow users to type up an email while not connected to the internet.

The JooJoo operating system does sound quite a bit like the Google Chrome OS, the only difference is you will be order the JooJoo on Friday, December 11th with an estimated delivery date some 8-10 weeks down the road. Google Chrome OS on the other hand is not expected until the second half of 2010.

Other features of JooJoo include 4GB SSD with additional cloud storage and a battery life rated for 5 hours. With the lawsuits that are coming and the higher price, the question will be if this will turn off some potential buyers, but time will tell.
