Maybe it’s the caffeine jolt from the morning coffee fix or perhaps the adrenaline rush of having to be at an office meeting at a specific time, but it’s so common to see people walking at top speed through hallways and rounding corners at light speed.
Usually, this happens without incident, but on occasion, there may be another person on the other side of the corner and the two will end up in an impromptu face to face. Now if it’s someone of the opposite sex, you might smile but generally, it can be awkward with the potential of causing a workplace accident, especially if one of you just happens to have a hot beverage in your hand.
The Corner’s Communication Warning Sign is really nothing but a pair of motion sensors placed on both corners of the wall edge. When a passerby is walking down the hall and comes close to the corner, a red light and audible tone is heard on the other side of the corner, alerting anyone that might be there.
Simple, clever idea. Mind you, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll see this in every office building that you visit but the concept gadget did win the Red Dot Design Concept Award so there was some interest in the product. Who knows, maybe some day, you’ll see some form of it deployed in a few high traffic pedestrian areas.
