The launch of the iPhone 4 was to be shortly followed by the release of a white model. Of course, we know the story behind this and with all of the delays that Apple has had, there is now pent up demand for this product.
Demand is said to be so great, that we’re seeing cloned models being sold and now we have an American college student, 17 years of age no less who is said to be selling genuine white iPhone 4 component parts. In fact, Queens, New York resident Fei Lam has created his own business venture by selling kits that people can purchase to convert their black iPhone 4 models into a white model.
It is believed that Lam has connections with Foxconn employees that allow him to get the component parts well in advance of the Apple 2011 release of the white iPhone 4. The problem is of course the legality of his business and the unauthorized use of trademarks.
According to Lam, you can buy a complete kit which includes both the front and rear panels in white, a white home button as well as instructions and the tools necessary to make a successful conversion. Cost for the full meal deal is $300 but for a limited time, he has dropped the price to $280.
Lam has indicated that demand for his product is strong and he has moved more then $130,000 worth of parts which he says is putting him through school. Apple has not yet contacted the young entrepreneur about his business, but he has received warning letters from a private investigator advising him that the parts could be counterfeit or stolen. Lam doesn’t plan to stop his business anytime soon but did say he will get a lawyer just in case Apple comes knocking on his door.
