Wi-Fi network security has generally been addressed at the router level. Each high speed wireless router is slightly different and will support different security protocols. Some rely on just WEP passwords, while others use WPA, or WPA2. Some find a benefit to implementing MAC address filtering.
A Japanese researcher has taken a different approach to tackling wireless security. His method involves a coat of cheap interior paint which when applied to the walls of a room will block high speed wireless signals. The new paint contains aluminum-iron oxide which resonates at the same frequencies used by Wi-Fi signals and is thus able to absorb electromagnetic waves in that range.
Businesses that have migrated to wireless technology and are looking for cheap solutions to create a secure network will welcome a simple solution such as a coat of paint to the more expensive electronics and shielding currently employed.
