Chris Boardman, the Olympic cyclist knows a thing about what makes a good performance bike and he is adding his professional opinion in what he’d like to see included in future bike designs.
According to Boardman, his concept bike would stand up to the rigors of daily use and fair well against the road hazards that bicyclists face everyday. In that regard, his bike would play digital music, count calories and include strong anti-theft features.
The Boardman bike would be made from a carbon fiber and the tires would be both puncture proof and self-inflating so you don’t have to worry if you happen to ride over the rusty nail on the road.
Solar panels integrated into the bike frame would power a small motor should the operator wish to take a break and fingerprint recognition would restrict usage of the bike to approved users only.
Boardman indicates that all of these technologies currently exist and that his concept design is feasible, it’s just the will to build it is not there yet. He does acknowledge though that cost would also prevent this bike reaching the mainstream at this time.

Not available to buy for probably another 20 years, but a cool look at the future. He should check with Boardman’s bike company if he wants to pursue it.
