Its official, the iPhone 3G S is coming to China in the fourth quarter thanks to a three year agreement struck between China Unicom LTD and Apple Inc. The deal should be a win for all involved. Apple will have a chance to increase sales by introducing their product to the world’s largest mobile market, a market that has 687 million wireless subscribers. For Unicom, this deal will also boost earnings and as well as their subscriber base as they compete with local rival China Mobile Ltd.
Under the terms of the agreement, Apple will need to remove Wi-Fi wireless internet from the popular gadget in order to comply with government regulations. This will be a negative against the product as Chinese consumers already have access to hacked and unlocked iPhones available from overseas or through the gray market. New pricing plans are still being worked out but are believed to be comparable to what is currently charged stateside.
