Samsung announced the availability of the E1107 Crest Solar phone. The announcement was somewhat of a surprise considering back in February, the company had indicated their intention of releasing the Blue Earth phone.
The low end phone won’t have the best of product features with all the bells and whistles that consumers have come to expect from cell phone manufacturers, but that’s because Samsung has other intentions regarding this phone.
The E1107 is being released as a cheap phone for developing markets.
The solar cell phone includes an 800 mAh battery that can be charged through an ordinary wall outlet or via solar energy. According to Samsung, a 1 hour sun exposure will provide 5-10 minutes of talk time.
Other features of the E1107 include 900/1800 MHz GSM network connectivity, a 1.52 inch CSTN display, mobile tracker, MP3 ringtones and a built in flashlight.
Expect to see the Samsung E1107 in Asia, Latin America and parts of Europe later this month.
