Written by mike

Fabio Dabori, a Brazilian industrial designer, took one look at the electric toothbrush and put his own spin on it. Called the Giro Sponge toothbrush, this electric toothbrush does not use bristles for the brush heads. Instead, the brush heads are replaced with a small sponge of similar size.

Wide Eyed Contacts

Written by mike

If you’ve ever watched Japanese Anime, there are certain traits that the characters have which are so glaringly obvious, that they are impossible to miss. These include fair skin, straight hair, and wide eyes. You often see Japanese girls try and emulate this look, some of them succeeding quite well at it. In fact, there have been many times that I’ve taken a second look because the transformation is so complete.

Human Skeleton Made From Recycled Cassettes

Written by mike

I have to give credit for the creativity of artist Brian Dettmer and have to admire what he’s done with his old cassettes. He’s taken old cassette tapes that are no longer required and has recycled them into the shape of a human skeleton. His work was so creative that it was on display at the International Museum of Surgical Science in Chicago, as part of his ‘Postoperative’ exhibition.

Measuring Blood Pressure through your underwear

Written by mike

Here’s an interesting story…..measuring blood pressure with sensors in your underwear.

Underwear to measure blood pressure via the pulse pressure wave

On a clinical level, blood pressure is not hard to measure but the equipment necessary to measure it can be bulky and awkward to carry around. Having a condition that requires regular blood pressure readings throughout the day can be very inconvenient if you had to carry around with you a cuff, a pump, and a stethoscope all day long.

Scientists recognize this and have developed underwear with sensors sewn into the waistband. These sensors measure what is known as the pulse wave velocity, which is the rate at which a pulse pressure wave passes through the circulatory system. It has been determined that these pulse pressure waves correlate very well with blood pressure measurements.

This will be a huge benefit to those that have conditions that require regular blood pressure measurements. I’m sure some are probably relieved to hear that this system also works on the premise of the pulse wave velocity measurement rather then pumping air into the waistband and squeezing a rather delicate area of the body.
