Fujifilm has done something a little different with their new line of digicams. Instead of just making these devices aesthetically pleasing, they’ve made their new devices rugged. Both the FinePix XP30 and XP30 are said to be strong enough to support a drop from 1.5m in height, temperatures as low as -10 degrees centigrade and waterproof to a depth of 5 meters. They are also sand and dustproof.

When you see 3D technology advancements arrive for television and movie theaters, you can be pretty sure that digital cameras will be the next line of gadgets to incorporate 3D imagery.

Minox isn’t the first company with a 3D camera, but they are following what is becoming an industry trend by teasing us with their new product. Their latest 3D compact camera will be able to show pictures that consumers can view without those crazy 3D glasses. As most will appreciate, the biggest issue facing greater adoption of 3D televisions into the home theater systems of today has been those 3D glasses which are expensive and a bother to wear. These televisions utilize stereoscopic 3D technology, but there is a new standard that is becoming highly popular and that is autostereoscopic 3D.

This new standard makes use of thousands of small mirrors that have been embedded into the display screen and these give the perception of depth, thereby making it look like an image extends past the flat screen. This technology is not perfect and at this time is limited for only small display screens making it perfect for portable game consoles, digital picture frames and of course 3D cameras.

The Minox PX3D will be showcased at the Photokina photography trade show and according to Minox, the 3D pictures will be “fascinating and realistic”.
