We’ve reviewed some pretty interesting kitchen gadgets such as the worlds smallest microwave oven and today, we got word that two Japanese researchers from Keio University have created a YouTube powered microwave.

To create their masterpiece, the geeks, errr, researchers used any old generic brand microwave, but of good quality. The only requirement was that it have an LED display screen in the door panel and in this case, the LED screen measured 10.4-inches.
A set of speakers were built into the microwave, pleasing the audiophiles looking for good quality sound. Finally the whole contraption was connected to a Mac, although with a little tinkering, it would probably work equally well with a Windows PC.
The Castoven microwave is designed to warm food and find a suitable YouTube video of equal length to entertain you while you wait. The whole process is automated with the unit making use of the Adobe AIR application which obtains digital videos using YouTube’s API.
