Casmobot is deemed the next generation slope mower and is a Plant Nursing Robotics technology transfer project to share new innovations and designs with industry partners.
Casmobot is an acronym for Computer Assisted Slope Mowing Robot, the goal of which was to create a semi-automatic lawnmower.
Currently, the designers have incorporated Nintendo Wiimote support into the design so that manual navigation of the electric lawnmower can be accomplished by moving the Wiimote while reclining on an outdoor lawn chair. Similar to any Wii game, this robotic lawnmower moves in the direction that the Wiimote is turned.
Casmobot also includes a number of safety features to prevent lawnmower accidents. For instance, if the Wiimote runs out of power or gets out of range of Casmobot, the robotic vehicle stops immediately. The B button on the programmed remote control has also been changed into a kill switch or dead man button so that the operator has a manual means of stopping Casmobot in an emergency situation.
