United Drinks and Beauty Corporation claim to have created a fruit flavored herbal drink called Liquid Smoking. Upon consumption, the drink is said to provide feelings of instant high, followed by a euphoric calming effect. The target audience for Liquid Smoking are smokers in public places who are unable to light up due to local laws.
Liquid Smoking is said to contain no nicotine. The high that people experience is said to be due to a natural mix of plant roots found in South Africa. Needless to say, there is some opposition to this product.
Amanda Sanford, from Action on Smoking and Health, states ‘Although we welcome anything which is a genuine alternative, many of these are totally unregulated and we only have the manufacturer’s word about what they contain. We would be concerned about any health claims that are unsubstantiated, and at this stage we wouldn’t encourage people to buy them.’
